Poroderma pantherinum

Alicia N. Hendry

Poroderma pantherinum (Leopard catshark). This catshark is endemic to the waters of South Africa. We reeled him in by hand-line along the shores of Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa. Documenting his measurements and tag number before releasing him back into the harbour.

Leopard catsharks can grow up to 84 centimetres. While being rather small in size, these bottom dwelling catsharks prefer to keep close to shorelines, not often exceeding depths of 20 meters, and staying within kelp beds, rocky shores or reefs.

Leopard catsharks diet consists of bony fish and and invertebrates.
